Mid-market SaaS
Best SEO Services For Mid-Market B2B SaaS, And Why Both Ends Of The Market Fit Badly
Best SEO services for mid-market B2B SaaS are hard to buy for a structural reason: the agency market is built for the two stages either side of you. Startup playbooks produce traffic your sales team cannot use, and enterprise retainers sell you a junior bench with process overhead designed for a client ten times your size.

The stage problem
Mid-market SaaS is badly served at both ends of the agency market
Startups and enterprises both have an agency market built for them. The band in between does not, and the reason is structural rather than accidental.
At the low end, the agencies built for seed-stage companies are priced for a business that has not proven the product. Their playbook is volume content aimed at a category that may not exist yet, and applied to a mid-market company with real customers and a real competitive set it produces traffic that sales cannot use.
At the high end, enterprise agencies are staffed for enterprise. A mid-market retainer buys you their junior bench and their process overhead, and you spend a meaningful share of the fee on account management built for a client ten times your size.
So the mid-market buyer gets sold up or sold down, and both are expensive in different ways.
What actually changes at this stage
You are past “does anyone want this” and into “why you rather than them”. That single shift moves the centre of gravity of an SEO programme from category education to competitive positioning — comparison pages, alternatives pages, integration pages and the terms your competitors already rank for. Almost none of that is what a startup playbook produces.
The band
What an SEO programme should be doing at each stage
Worth being explicit about, because “mid-market” is used loosely and the work genuinely differs.
| Stage | The bottleneck | What SEO should be doing |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-product-market fit | Nobody knows the category exists | Very little. Spend on sales and distribution first |
| Early growth | You are invisible, not out-positioned | Category education, foundational technical work, the money pages |
| Mid-market | You are compared, and losing comparisons you should win | Comparison, alternatives, integrations, pricing transparency, the terms competitors own |
| Enterprise | Coordination across regions, products and teams | Governance, international, internal enablement, scale operations |
The test
If your sales team is regularly losing to a named competitor rather than to “no decision”, you are in the mid-market band and the comparison layer is where the return is. If you are mostly losing to “no decision”, you are earlier than you think and the category work comes first.
We will tell you which one we think you are on the audit, including when the answer is that you should not be buying SEO yet.
Where the work goes
Four things that move the number for a mid-market SaaS
The comparison layer you have been avoiding
Comparison and alternatives pages are the highest-intent queries in software and the most neglected, because writing one well means being fair about where the competitor wins.
That fairness is exactly why they convert. A page that admits a competitor is better at one thing is believed about the other five.
Pricing content, whether or not you publish pricing
Pricing is one of the most searched terms for any B2B software product, and on most sites the page is a form. So the query goes to review sites and aggregators, and you lose control of the answer.
You do not have to publish a number to own the query. Publishing the model, the variables and an honest range does most of the work.
Integration and ecosystem pages
Every integration you support is a query with intent attached, and at mid-market you usually support enough of them to build a real cluster. Most companies have one page listing all of them.
One page per integration, written for someone who already uses the other tool, is among the highest-return page types available at this stage.
The terms your competitors already rank for
Not a keyword list from a tool. The specific queries where a competitor currently occupies the position your sales team keeps losing to. That is a targeted, finite, checkable list.
It is also the fastest way to show a board what the programme is doing, because the movement is against a named rival rather than against an abstract volume figure.
What we will not do at this stage
We will not build you a top-of-funnel blog calendar because it is the easiest thing to sell and the easiest thing to show volume against. At mid-market it is usually the lowest-return work available, and it is the reason so many SaaS teams have a traffic chart that goes up and a pipeline that does not.
Common questions
Mid-market SaaS questions
What counts as mid-market B2B SaaS?
Less a revenue number than a competitive position: you have a product that works, customers who renew, and a named set of competitors you are compared against in deals. If your losses are mostly to rivals rather than to no-decision, you are in this band whatever the ARR figure says.
Why not just hire an enterprise agency?
You can, and for some companies it is right. But a mid-market retainer at an enterprise firm usually buys their junior bench plus process overhead designed for a much larger client. Ask directly who does the work, not who is on the pitch.
Is this different from your SaaS packages page?
Yes. That page covers what the tiers include and what they cost. This one is about which stage you are at and what the work should therefore be. Read this first, then that.
How long before it shows up in pipeline?
Longer than anyone wants and shorter than people fear once the comparison layer is live, because those queries carry intent rather than curiosity. We will give you a milestone view on the audit rather than a date we cannot honour.
Do we need to publish our pricing?
No, and plenty of good reasons exist not to. But the query gets answered by somebody, and right now it is being answered by review sites. Publishing the model and the variables, without the number, recovers most of the ground.
What if our category does not have comparison search yet?
Then you are earlier than mid-market and the work is different — category education and the money pages first. We would rather tell you that than sell you the wrong programme.
